Michael Oates is principal-in-charge of the National Tax Practice and a member of the executive committee at Rothstein Kass. Based in the Roseland office, Mike has been involved in many areas of tax research and planning including: financial services, transfer pricing and other international tax issues, retirement planning, tax filing planning and compliance, multi-state allocations and audit representation before taxing authorities. Mike often consults with investment funds on initial organizational structure to ensure maximum tax efficiency. He also provides ongoing tax advice throughout the business and economic cycles on operational matters.

Mike is frequently tapped to lecture on a variety of tax-related issues at major industry conferences, seminars and professional associations. In addition, he has been featured as a tax expert in many publications, as well as, radio and television programs. His professional memberships include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA), in which he serves on its Financial Instruments and Transactions committee. He is also a member of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA) and previously served as president of the Bergen Chapter. Notably, Mike served as chairman of the Tax Committee for AGN International-North America, a worldwide association of separate and independent accounting and consulting firms.

Mike earned a Master of Science degree in taxation from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey and a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
